FAC ET SPERA, Latin for Do and Hope.
Service has always been important to me. TBI didn’t change my desire to serve others, but due to the nature of my disability I am limited physically and am not able to help as much as I’d like.
Last weekend was the Scottish Festival in Payson. I picked up Roger Mathison (Matheson clan Deputy-Lieutenant) from the SLC airport. The following days were spent setting up the tent, table, and chairs, and talking to people about joining the Matheson Clan.
It is difficult for me to walk, carry items, and even stand on uneven surfaces — like the grass at the park. It’s also easier for me to lose my balance in crowded areas. But I loved meeting extended family I didn’t know and I love learning about people. TBI did NOT take away my ability to connect with people — something I learned from Grandpa Jack L. Walters.
For those of you who don’t know — I was born a Matheson. My siblings and I were adopted by our stepfather-turned-father, when I was a freshman in high school, and we changed our last name to Griffiths. Fun stories for my children since Matheson is on my freshman yearbook! 😀
Who else has Scottish heritage??
