Westworld Doesn’t Understand the Nature of Consciousness

I don’t understand why showing perceptions from Dolores’s point of view implies consciousness. After all, she is perceiving visual / audio signals. If she was just a camera hooked up to a recorder, a director could still choose to show the audience the camera’s point of view. The same can be said about flashbacks and the like.
