Outlet For Rage

A Villanelle on Modern Poetry

We’re past the times of sages and sonnets
From times when words were to assuage
And into those of brutally honest

As hungry as wolves with appetites whet
Our poetry acts as an outlet for rage,
We’re past the times of sages and sonnets

Hypersensitive and open-minded yet,
Far from times when difference is plague
And into those of brutally honest.

Like the webs that bind the internet,
Our poetry frees us birds from a cage,
We’re past the times of sages and sonnets

Success now reeks of blood, tears and sweat,
Anyone willing can now take the stage
We’re in those times of brutally honest

Though broken society full of defect,
‘Word porn’ is open to every age,
We’re past the times of sages and sonnets
And into those of brutally honest.
