Why you should take cold showers
Be comfortable being uncomfortable every day, just a few seconds.

“Wait! There are people who voluntarily take cold showers?!”
Yes, and about a year ago I became one of them. The first time I heard about people taking cold showers was through an interview my brother showed me from the YouTube channel “Impact Theory” by Tom Bilyeu. He interviewed a guy named Wim Hof also known as the Iceman.
He got his nickname by breaking a few records related to cold exposure, for example, running a half marathon above the Arctic Circle bare feet or climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in shorts.
He teaches people to control their body and achieve extraordinary things. His teachings are based on 3 pillars: cold therapy, breathing and commitment.

And this is where my journey began. After digging deeper and learning more about him and the Wim Hof method, I gave it a try. I took my first cold shower in January. Although, I don’t believe in New Year’s resolutions, I had the desire to change my daily routine and decided to take cold showers from now on. I’m a strong advocate of the belief that you can only change, if you change something you do daily.
At first, I struggled, I even postponed some of the showers I should have taken for about two weeks. I said: “Ah, if I I’m taking a shower now, I have to take a cold one. You know what, I’ll shower tomorrow!”. Letting my hygiene suffer for a day or two, in the end I put my willpower together and endured this temporary pain. From 10 seconds, to 30 seconds to 1 minute and longer.
The more often I showered cold, the more comfortable I got and the happier, healthier and stronger I felt. Now, I’m hooked!
Wim Hof’s tag line is:
“…to be happy, healthy and strong”.
This addition to your morning routine will give you a kick. By the time you’re dressed and ready to leave the house, you feel indestructible. Nothing can hold you back, because you already won the fight against your biggest enemy “yourself”. You feel more alive, as your breaths are deeper and more air is pushing through your lungs. Ultimately, you feel happier for winning your day in the morning.

To mention a few of the health benefits of taking cold showers:
- Boosted immune system,
- More energy,
- Better sleep,
- Increased willpower,
- Improved cold tolerance,
- Improved mind-body connection.
I encourage you to find something that challenges you every day, that challenges your routine and makes you do something differently. Whether it is brushing your teeth with the other hand, doing yoga or taking cold showers. In the end, you’re doing something your future self will thank you for.
