Infection prevention is top of mind for healthcare facilities, especially hospitals and care homes, which service vulnerable populations. Care homes, for example, contend with antimicrobial resistance (AMR), pervasive infections caused by C. diff and norovirus, as well as the ‘tripledemic’ of COVID-19, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), and influenza, which all adversely affect over-65s and immunocompromised people.

Knowing the importance of infection prevention and the unique solution we bring for hand hygiene with our Spectricept products, we are pleased to be featured in the February issue of The Care Home Environment with an op-ed about infection prevention. We were honoured to provide information and advice on infection prevention, with the aim to help protect some of the most vulnerable people.

The piece, titled “Products kill microbes, but people prevent infection”, details how a holistic, systemic approach to infection prevention creates a safer, more hygienic environment for both care home residents and staff. The article offers insight into the key strategies to maintaining hygiene in healthcare facilities; including hand hygiene, environmental cleansing and disinfection, effective cleaning plans, understanding the chain of infection, and assessing how to protect vulnerable residents.

Our Spectricept products, currently consisting of the alcohol-free hand sanitiser and a body wash, are broad-spectrum, pH-neutral, high-level disinfectants. The active ingredient is our patent-pending, stabilised form of hypochlorous acid (HOCl), effective against bacterial spores, viruses, fungi, and yeasts on skin. Spectricept Care+ Hands is the first high-level disinfectant fully validated as a non-irritant for skin. Our aim with this unique biocidal product is to aid healthcare professionals in reducing infection rates and in improving patient care.
