Vegans Demanding Changes to Ancient Religions

Good piece, but I don’t know if I’d go so far as to call it “cultural appropriation” for someone to expect a religion that they’re able to connect with so deeply otherwise, to also agree with their compassion towards non-human animals. As the author points out, it feels almost like a betrayal, so I’d cut them some slack.

I do have a point to nitpick — the article seems to portray Indic religions as monolithic entities, but the author no doubt knows the multitude of contradictions running within each religion itself. There are hedonistic, agnostic, even atheistic schools of thought within Hinduism alone, and compassion plays but a small part in the grand scheme of things.
