The Truth About “Following Your Dream”
A friend so bravely so threw out a question to a group of people about “following your dream” earlier and it gave me a lot to think about… Call it follow your dream, your bliss, your passion, it’s the same…. And whether it’s for work, or personal life, it’s still a dream and desire you have within you (start a business, move, have a baby, go after your love, etc.)… I wrote this response (which was about starting a business but relevant to all situations), slightly edited from my response to her, based on not just one experience of mine, but many experiences (and still experiencing)…. I’m not sure why I’m sharing other than the feeling in me of “When in doubt, go vulnerable” which was shared with me by Jim McCarthy years ago…. xo

Follow your dream is my advice…
But following your dream does not ensure revenue….
Following your dream IS a risk (that’s why so few people actually have the courage to take the plunge)….
Following your dream comes with the hardest work you’ll ever do in your life…
Following your dream comes with loads of criticism…
Following your dream makes you feel incredibly vulnerable to levels you’ve never felt before…
Following your dream can make you feel unbelievably lonely…
Following your dream can be horrifying…
Following your dream will bring out the harshest critics around you aka “haters”…
Following your dream means some people will outright abandon you, turn against you, be hostile to you (which will be confusing to you).
You WILL fail at some things when you follow your dream (maybe a lot of things).
But what is failure?
Failure is growth…
Failure is a lesson…
Failure is a gift to open your eyes and your heart if you’re brave enough to embrace it…
Following your dream allows you to fail gracefully and rise above…
Following your dream will make you the happiest ever because you’re creating and giving your dream life…
Following your dream brings out people in full force who align with you, love you and would do anything for you…
Following your dream is beautiful…
Following your dream is inspirational….
Following your dream is life-changing…
Following your dream means you’re alive and learning…
Following your dream makes you stronger…
Following your dream IS WORTH every ounce of effort, every tear, every sob session, every time your heart was broken by someone you thought supported you…
Following your dream leads you to paths you can’t foresee but are amazing and more beautiful than you could have imagined…
Following your dream opens up your world…
Life is richer when you follow your dream.
