Brilliantly written. I couldn’t agree more. Just ask any parent of a classified special education child if they’ve ever been able to receive appropriate (Orton Gillingham) reading remediation, the foundation for much of any student’s ability to learn any subject. Then ask how many families fell apart and had to leave the district because a. parent’s plea for their child’s educational help was answered by kicking the can way, way down the road, and b. their child’s emotional stress took him/her into a dark place, and c. the exhaustion and financial expense of tutoring had just come to an end.
Doing what is cost effective is the motto. Turning a cheek to doing what’s right by Millburn’s students, parents, teachers seems to always fall by the wayside.
