“I live in the United States, where women have been groomed to live in a steady state of fear for having the audacity to do anything while female.”
I dislike that you generalize like this. Do you often generalize when you write articles? I ask because I disagree with this feeling/thought you have and I’m a women….
“Go to work? Sexual harassment! Go to a bar? Rape! Walk by yourself? Rape again!” Men also experience sexual harassment in daily life.
You met some unsavory folks on your journey, so what? Men and women deal with weirdo’s everyday, but we realize there are bigger issues and some people are just unpleasant. We move on. Why couldn’t you just laugh off the idiot who made a joke about your husband on the trial? Was he hitting on you? Was he groping you? It seems all he did was make a harmless statement and you responded like an asshole. I make friendly comments to strangers all the time. Is my intention bad? No, but someone might not get my joke or like my tone or whatever. Most people just move the fuck on.
Imagine if you stopped to write an article every time a man (or what about a woman) looked at your wrong or if you felt the subway was too male-dominated that day or the person making your sandwich forgot the cheese (obviously because you’re a woman and you don’t need any foods that will make you fat!). I would be you’d find reason to write 10 articles a day. Look, the cheese comment is a joke. I think you’re taking things WAY to seriously.
