I’m with you on this one James. The dismissive way in which we sometimes try to ignore life’s problems or compensate for them by saying “well at least this, or at least that” can be a form of denial and might be psychologically unhealthy. To some extent it’s natural because when we’re feeling blue, we want to do anything we can to feel better. This can lead to impatience though, which carries the risk of eroding the mind’s ability to feel grateful even when conditions are relatively positive. Some degree of acceptance, whether the emotion is good or bad, then, might be advisable.
