Without net neutrality, there’s nothing to prevent this kind of thing from actually happening online. Net neutrality ensured that internet service providers had to treat every website the same with regards to both speed and access. Without it, ISPs could decide to charge customers an extra fee per month to access websites like Netflix and Spotify, and that’s before you pay your membership. With Verizon recently caught throttling Netflix subscribers, this isn’t a huge ascertion to make. In fact, Netflix is so worried about it that it’s already making agreements with ISPs to place servers on its networks.
I believe 40 hours a week is plenty to get great work done if you actually give people 40 hours a week to do it. Having them come in for 40 but giving them only 12 to themselves is like stealing 28 hours a week from someone. At Basecamp, we’ve made significant strides toward making sure 40 hours means 40 hours.
