Who Would Actually Go to Westworld?

I guess? In a world where we can coexist with near-sentient robots in a complicated multiverse, focusing on whether a CEO would be embarrassed by his behavior seems to be missing the point. This show is a look at the lines between fiction and reality, what makes humans human and facsimiles not and how far escapism can go before it becomes you simply actualizing who you are.

I’m not saying Westworld is perfect, but your criticism is so specific that even if you have a point you’re still missing the much larger ones by focusing on it. Perhaps time-stamping the show will help. Is this supposed to be the near future or the very distant future? Much of the first two episodes suggests it’s distant. TV and movies have long-trained viewers to accept that 1000 years from now we will live in a dystopic robot-heavy universe and we will not get along with these robots for one reason or another. And yes, in today’s society, one might be shamed if recorded sexually assaulting and killing a robot hooker in a hyper-convincing VR world. But if Westworld takes place in 3016? Then maybe there is a new, heavy theme to consider — that humanity is on a wayward path culminating in full detachment from anything we individually determine as less than human.
