Not everyone has the same taste in music. Even in country music, there are many sub-genres to choose from. George Strait is a national artist who struggled for generations, from the Western swing to the tonky tonk, but at the core of it all, he was just a great traditional national artist.

Here are five artists with similar traditional styles; Not a “pop” star in the mix.

Alan Jackson.
It is almost too obvious to link George Strait with Alan Jackson, but it is necessary. In addition to being good friends, the two also shared similar singing and performing styles live. You won’t see one of them running around on stage, smashing guitars.

While Strait relies on some of the best musicians to write his hits, Jackson writes many of his own. Regardless, both have gone through extremely successful careers, and if you haven’t checked out Jackson’s music library yet, go ahead and do yourself a favor.

Brad Paisley.
Brad Paisley has it all: he can write, he can sing, and boy, can he play the guitar. He has a traditional style, but that doesn’t mean he’s claustrophobic. In fact, he’s anything but.

Paisley loves to have fun with songs, and he has written some of the funniest tunes and smartest hooks, like “I’m not”, “I’m Mrs. Gonna,” and “Wine”. However, he knows how to balance fun and gameplay with more serious tunes, like “When I get where I’m going” and “Whiskey Lullaby”.

Dierks Bentley.
Dierks Bentley, like Brad Paisley, has a diverse style. He’s a traditional artist with a great deal of hard work, and he shares hilarious songs like “How do I do it” and “What did I think”. Add to that his healthy look and you have the perfect package of a modern national star.

Joe Nichols.
Joe Nichols is another great traditional country artist. He has many songs, some of which are serious and interesting. He is another artist that makes eye contact and respect for his elders. Nichols have earned a number of Top 20 hits. His 2013 album, Crickets, provided him with two more # 1 singles: “Sunny and 75” and “Yeah”.

Josh Turner.
Josh Turner exploded in 2003 with the song “Long Black Train”, spent 40 weeks on the country Billboard chart. The song has a Johnny Cash feel and a gospel country sound, which is very similar to the other artists on this list. Since then, Turner has become one of the country’s greatest successes, and he has been nominated for numerous Grammy, CMA and ACM awards.
