When it comes to digital art, procreate is one of the well-known tools in the art space. Procreate caters to all people and creative professions, from beginners to professionals. Procreate has many features to enhance the user experience and output. Many beginners will probably miss these features, but not on my watch. So, here are five best procreate features you should know to upgrade your procreating experience.
1. Gestures
Gestures are a great way to increase the workflow in any software, and the same goes for Procreate. A lot of gesture customization is available in Procreate, so you can set it according to your liking.
To access the gesture controls:
1. Press the Wrench Icon on the top left of the canvas.
2. Go to the Prefs section and tap the “Gestures Controls.”
Some of my recommended Gestures are:
Undo Action: Two Fingers Tap
Redo Action: Three fingers tap
Eyedropper: Tapping on the square Icon on the size control panel (customizable).
Quick Menu: Touch and hold (Customizable).
Layer Select: A Finger Touch (Customizable).
2. Timelapse Video
Do you know all your drawing processes are recorded in a timelapse video in Procreate? If not, then you do now. Timelapse Video is perfect for viewing your art process and for someone who wants to share their work on the web. You can view and export the timelapse, making it a cool procreate feature.
To Access the timelapse video:
1. Press the Wrench Icon on the top left of the canvas.
2. Go to the Video section and tap “Time-lapse Replay.”
If you want to switch the export settings, you must work with a custom canvas. Select the “Icon” beside the New Canvas to create a custom canvas.
Now you can change the quality and resolution of the timelapse exports. Along with the video, you can also play around with other customizations.
3. Drawing Guides
Drawing Guides are a cool hidden procreate feature you must use to improve your designs. The guides ensure that all your drawing lines are perfect. And if you want to get the perfect outline of your reference, grids are a way to do so.
To Access the Drawing guides:
1. Press the Wrench Icon on the top left of the canvas.
2. Go to the Canvas section and turn on the “Drawing Guide” option.
You can change the Drawing Guides’ layout and edit its size, thickness, and opacity by pressing the Edit Drawing Guide.
4. Color Palette
A good color scheme is crucial since it is a captivating element of an artwork/design. Hence, creating a color palette is vital to save all the colors important to your drawing style.
To create a Color Palette:
1. Press the Color Icon on the top right of the canvas.
2. Tap the Plus Icon beside the “palettes” and then “Create New Palette.”
Now, you can use the eyedropper tool or manually choose the color and tap the empty palette boxes to drop the color.
5. Reference
References are important since they inspire the final artwork/design. If you don’t want to look at another screen for reference, procreate has made your task easier. With this hidden procreate feature, you can bring the reference to your drawing screen.
To access the reference:
1. Press the Wrench Icon on the top left of the canvas.
2. Go to the Canvas section and enable the “TReference.”
Once you’ve enabled the reference, you can import your ref or choose a part of the canvas. Also, you can resize and drag around the reference tab to place it in a convenient area.
