Khudi and Self-Learning
Part:01 Edhi Sb Reading

Edhi Sahib’s life is full of examples to be followed. From his childhood, He thought like Man of Action and Acted like Man of thought. He is recognized as “Angel of Mercy”,moreover he is regarded as Pakistan’s most appreciated and well-known personality. He used all of the Amal’s principles or progress in different aspect of his life. His principles of life were same as Amal’s principles of progress !! From the examples set by Edhi in which he used the principles of progress I can relate his experience of working at the cloth shop of Seth Haji Abdullah. He got a salary of rupees five out of which he use to save one rupee and the remaining four rupees were left for his mother. Edhi maintained the accounts of tea and collected the Seth’s son from school for which he got tips and he used to save it for helping the needy ones.Ladies at that time use to observe complete purdah and for the very reason they dint come to the market directly that’s why children were the main marketers and salesperson who went home to home selling goods.Seth made him “AMIN” or “the money keeper” due to his honesty and hard-work. this experience of his life at the small age of eleven contained almost all of the principles of progress. To start working their was his #AMAL ,continuous #KamKamKam led him to be Amin …
attempt to study the concept of “Khudi” in Iqbal’s The Secrets of the Self not only on theoretical grounds but also on account of its poetic expression. This research article focuses upon Iqbal’s inventive doctrine of the self; and all the subsequent works of Iqbal supplemented and further refined this central concept. The dominant idea that Iqbal emphasizes is that knowing oneself is in fact an immediate perception of God. He focuses his attention on the individual “I”, thus shifting the emphasis from divine to human. The path of recognition of the self is the path that takes one to a contact with the Absolute. Iqbal’s whole conception of the growth of the selfhood consists of three levels:

i- the self and “I am ness (intrapersonal)

ii- the self and the other (interpersonal)

iii- the self and God (transpersonal)

The first level of the self and “I am ness” can be likened to the first (lowermost) level of psychological needs in Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. At this level the self is just conscious of its own self. This “I am ness” marks the first awakening of the self. The self cannot think beyond itself until and unless the physiological needs are satisfied. The other level of “the self and the other” can be linked to psychological and social needs. After the station of the biological or physiological needs, the self yearns for security and stability. Here, at this level, the self is able to recognize the other that is to see oneself in the light of the other. When physiological and safety needs are fairly satisfied as Maslow suggests, “People have belongingness and love needs — -they feel the need that they belong somewhere instead of being transient or newcomers — -“(Hall 204). Relatedness is a need of belongingness, which starts from our natural ties with our mother and reaches to universal comradeship with all human beings. The third level of “the self and God” is the recognition of God — -to see oneself in the light of God. This level can be linked to the “Need of self-actualization” in Maslow’s theory. The development of the self does not take place in a void or seclusion. When a man is disconnected from his environments, his capacities remain underdeveloped. Iqbal’s “Perfect Man” at the highest level of self-realization attains a spiritual power. The absorption of the Divine attributes makes the Perfect Man closer to God. So the self attains its highest goal by becoming deeply related to God, making possible a union of the temporal and the eternal. He then knows that the world has been created for him and he is for the world.

Khudi delves deep into the consciousness of a man to explore one’s inner self that tends to explore the whole world. While self learning is the innate ability of human being to learn from his own experiences. A person who has self realization, first ponder over his own existence and existence of the whole world.

Amal is one the success principles that is followed by Edhi sab, when he helps the poor and the needy person of the society by doing the substantial effort whether it is to provide food , medicine and money to the poor or efficiently communicate to his mother about what kind of help is required to soothe that poor unfortunate being.

Edhi sb makes effort everyday to help the poor. In his sense mind the one of problem was poverty and the solution was his help everyday. He ran for miles to provide food and medicine to the needy. I was overwhelmed by the consistency and passion of edhi sab in helping the poor by doing amal. My key learning from this example is if you do a sincere effort with pure intention everyday one day your dream will come true.

If I relate the example of Edhi sab same happened to me when i was studying at university. I was not good at speaking English language. What I did was I started ‘amal’ , by hiring an English teacher. Every evening I took coaching classes in which me and my teacher worked on speaking english and enhancing my fluency in this language. Few months later, i was able to speak english well. I even showed better performance in class as compared to the fellows who were already good at english. Rest of my class fellows were blaming the educational system that had been failed to make them proficient in this language but i took exact opposite approach of ‘no blame game and doing the right act to get desired outcome.

Thus in second year of my university I applied for a College debu for teaching. The whole interview process was in english. I deliberately applied and won that seat. Rest of my class fellows also applied but didn’t make it because they didn’t put in any effort to improve their english language speaking skill . Alas, they wasted their precious time and energy in blaming others.
