Dear Phil Robertson
I’m writing you this letter,
After your dynamic speech
With celebrity and money,
So vast your words shall reach.
You speak with God in mind,
His Son carried in your heart.
With head held high and strong,
Your rally cry, your art.
Your love for God reminds me,
Of the way that I was raised.
In my church dress, singing hymns,
In my heart, The Spirit blazed.
Memorizing verses,
Absorbing line by line.
Of ALL of the religions,
The only TRUE one? Mine.
Fast forward all these years,
I’m a woman of thirty one.
My roller coaster life,
Never pulled me from His Son.
As many people do,
I had questions, only fair.
I retrieved my tattered bible,
I’d find the answers there.
I’d learned to translate stories,
Each message from above.
On how to live my life,
Respecting others, giving love.
You see, my God is good.
His will, forever clear.
We shall fight against all evils.
With Love, my shield my spear.
So when I heard your public cry,
To “rid the earth” of gays.
I wanted to address it,
In many different ways.
The bible, I decided,
Has a message I won’t tweak.
I’ve decided to address you,
With a language that you speak.
In Romans 2:11,
As clear as can be.
You’ll read that your God shows,
No Partiality.
Titus chapter 3, says,
Speak evil of NO ONE.
And show perfect courtesy,
To ALL! His will be done.
And since you’re such an expert,
On the bible in every way,
No one need remind you,
Of what you learned in younger days.
To love your neighbor as yourself,
No commandment as great as this.
I can refer you to the book,
Chapter and verse, if you wish.
Inciting hate and evil,
So a candidate will win?
Ignorant Mr Robertson,
Our God sees that, as sin.
Your twisted connotations,
And antiquated views,
Are borderline psychotic,
And surely to amuse.
You want to stand for God,
Rally hate, if you wish,
But according to Leviticus,
You may not eat crawfish.
What you have been doing, sir,
Thoroughly unorthodox.
You use my precious bible
As your bigoted soapbox.
Step down from your pedestal,
And open up The Book.
If you believe, the hate you spout,
Save your soul, and take a look.
In conclusion, Mr Robertson,
At night, for you, I pray.
Sincerely, Dani Collins.
I’m a Christian and I’m gay.
