49 Fallen Angels
June 12th when I awoke
I was sickened by the news.
Another deadly shooting,
Fueled by twisted views.
I fell to my knees,
And offered up a prayer,
For God to heal all wounds,
Of the people that were there.
I learned, with devastation,
Of the damage that was done.
49 fallen angels.
I grieved for every one.
Many others injured.
A nation’s heart is broken.
Deep within myself,
A blazing fire…woken.
Never saw myself as “advocate”
For those who’d fallen prey.
I never stood upon a soapbox,
Even though, I too, am gay.
I’ve never fought injustice, or
Spoke out against such things,
But that all changed last Sunday,
When 49 earned their wings.
Instead of silent moments,
For the brothers/sisters gone,
Honor them, join hands,
Speak out, and hold on.
Spouting bigotry has no value.
Acceptance is no curse,
Apply all that energy,
To turn hate in reverse.
Our kids should see the day,
The world has reconciled
When love stops the flame,
Of hate’s fury from running wild.
Join as one, and make them,
Put down the guns and knives.
Please take the time to show,
The value of ALL lives.
In the wake of awful tragedy,
Souls did not die in vain.
Tho’ these few words, will not help
The families and their pain.
Our nation mourns each person,
Can’t get them off our minds,
Let’s be their voice with LOVE,
And leave the hate behind.
With each passing day,
More people join this fight.
To educate the masses,
And teach them wrong from right.
The lost are now our teachers.
Their legacy fuels us all.
Our pleas for love grow louder,
As the voice of hate gets small.
The fallen angels watch us,
Spread their message from above.
Hate disintegrated.
One voice, one world, one love.
