Spinning Stories
-From the series My imaginary TED Talks to the audience in my head
We need to spin better stories for our world. All this violence and mass consumerism is a reflection we aren’t feeling very good about ourselves. Writers for film, TV and books need to take more responsibility in what they are feeding audiences. Let’s write stories that glorify nature, ecology and compassion towards women, animals and all living beings. Let’s write stories about peace and leave the bombs where they belong, in history; so we can remember why destruction is inferior to caring. Let’s tell our boys that it’s ok to cry and feel, that girls are not inferior, or the enemy… and that their bodies are sacred and so is sex. Let’s create ecological cities covered in plants, amongst the trees where growing food is as normal as brushing our teeth. Let’s follow the beautiful lady roaming around this city. She is not in a rush sipping her coffee in a disposable cup, but walking mindfully in gratitude for another morning breathing clean, unpolluted air. I want to see her comfortable in her skin without makeup. I don’t want to put her in a pedestal, because it’s ok to wake up without the need to make-oneself-up. I want to see her comfortable without stilettos, silicone or a manicure. She is not feeling desperate to be saved by prince charming and his fancy car. She can save herself, thank you. Let’s glorify the gardeners, the humanitarians and those that put life above money. Let’s advertise healthy food, ethical fashion and minimalism. Let’s show the lead character practicing meditation and zero waste.
