I would ALMOST BE TEMPTED to make Festivus a legal holiday. I’ve seen enough of Christmas commercialization, mixed Christian / Jewish or other religious traditions have problems trying to work with it or around. Evangelicals probably want it changed it changed to Trumpmas to honor their relatively new false Messiah, no matter that the Tangerine Tumor is no longer playing “ President “, & because Christmas is now a series of commercials for the biggest & costliest.
Festivus has a certain strange appeal to — The Airing of Grievances is something that I could REEALLY, truly get into. “I GOT A LOT OF PROBLEMS WITH YOU PEOPLE ! “ is a sentiment that I think that a LOT of people could get into, especially around this season. Cathartic. Cleansing. A rite of purification. Mentally — stabilizing.
No endless — loop carols on the radio this season ( I like them, but I have limits….. ). NO back — to — back showings of Home Alone or A Christmas Story ( I especially find A Christmas dated because my birth was roughly 30 years off. from the era of radio serials, WWI & the Depression. Home Alone is hopelessly out — of — touch. IF Kevin McAllister wasn’t caught by the bandits & had God — knows — what happen to him, they could sue the little munchkin & have a solid case. Stick to fare like ELF & any iteration of the Grinch. Or National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation ).Not during Festivus. Now Christians can get a taste of how Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, etc. feel.
FY : I’m no Scrooge, not a Grinch, definitely not a Krampus. I just think that Christmas has become or is becoming hopelessly commercial. Festivus would be a wholesome, refreshing alternative.
Ironically, my childhood & youth are choc — a — block FULL of warm, fuzzy, cocoa — scented, apple — cider flavor flavored memories of holiday seasons past, not a bad memory in the bunch, but rampant commercialism is tossing mildew around them.
Possible solution : Festivus.
Now where can I get a nice aluminum pole ? No tinsel, it’s quite distracting.
