Paris is a city rich in important monuments but also in suggestive and original corners far from the most popular routes for tourists from all over the world who visit this wonderful city.

Surely you have visited famous places like the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, Les Champs Elisee, the Bouburg … or its many museums But even the Parisian Parks is a wonderful opportunity to rest after a day spent visiting monuments and museums. Not to mention the many bridges, other cult buildings of Paris that, if you love urban photography, surely you will have had the opportunity to see up close … The sunsets on the Seine photographed from one of these bridges is an unmissable memory!

One of these particular places is undoubtedly the Rue Crémieux that I met thanks to a precious suggestion by my friend @joythewanderer, careful and curious traveler!

It seems incredible that in a district characterized by tall buildings, the twelfth arrondissement, hides this picturesque pedestrian street where you overlook neat and colorful small houses in pastel colors.

The Rue Crémieux, was built in 1865 when a real estate intervention interested the area of the Arènes nationales. Moïse Polydore Millaud, a decidedly enterprising man, journalist, publisher, banker, and entrepreneur was the architect of this real estate initiative. For this reason, this road was originally called “Avenue Millaurd”. In 1897 the street name became the current Rue Crémieux in honor of the politician Adolphe Crémieux who distinguished himself for his libertarian struggles.

In 1993 the Rue Crémieux became pedestrian and this helped to make this original corner of Paris even more peaceful.

On the sides of the road, 144 meters long and 7.5 meters wide, the simple three-storey houses with a serial design and simple but tidy facades with lots of flower vases create a highly sought-after color gallery for a very special souvenir photo of an unusual and original Paris.

Thanks to the initiative of its inhabitants the road is always kept in order and the houses are well kept and enriched by small and discreet designs painted on the walls.

The care of the green finally helps to create a small corner with all-bucolic and solar charm inside the large and lively city of Paris.

When I visited the Rue Crémieux I have to say that I was very surprised to see the anti-tourists posing for beautiful souvenir photos in this colorful corner.

The inhabitants of the neighborhood have to say that they didn’t seem very annoyed … indeed, they are certainly proud to live in such a particular and original corner of this great city.

A tip for those who want to take beautiful photographs. The house’s color and their details and designs are enhanced when there is a direct light that hits them.

So, depending on the time, you have to take into account this factor and the possible shadows that could be an obstacle for your photographs. For this reason, I suggest you go when the sun is high. A good and diffused sunlight will enhance this colorful environment and your photographs will certainly be more beautiful!

Practical info:

The rue Crémieux is close to the Gare de Lyon and can be reached by Metro n. 5 Quai de la Rapée stop.
