How Builders can use preliminary drawings to boost sales

Quoting… because you became a builder to spend the majority of your time giving out free estimates, right?

Quoting on any form of construction is a time consuming process but especially time consuming when you’re dealing with renovations or extensions and trying to determine the wants and needs of clients who may change their minds 3 or 4 times before deciding to go ahead with the project.

This is understandable as they will be spending a lot of money and want it just right, however there is a more streamlined approach to quoting that can help you free up more of your time to focus on other parts of your business.

Offering preliminary drawings to your clients for a fee is the best way for you to not only be able to quote on exactly what they need but a quick way to qualify clients, because if they’re not willing to part with a very small amount of money to get the job off to the best start possible then they may be wasting your time.

Preliminary drawings fall somewhere in between concepts and working drawings, including but not limited to the following:

  • Title Sheet
  • Site Plan
  • Demolition Plan
  • Floor Plans
  • Elevations
  • Door & Window Schedules
  • Electrical Layout
  • Perspectives

These drawings have enough detail for an accurate construction estimate and are also used to request Engineering & Certification quotes, planning approval and bank finance. Branded with your logo and contact information they also form an excellent marketing tool as the client has your company at the front of their mind whenever they are discussing the plans.

At DSA we will meet with your clients to determine their budget and what they need out of their renovation, conduct a measure of the site and liaise with the client until the preliminary drawings are complete. In addition to this we will also organise quotes for Engineering & Certification and handle this entire process.
