CS371P Spring 2022: Daniel Cai

What did you do this past week?

This past week, I started on the first project for this class and completed work for other classes. In addition, I had a few quizzes that I needed to study for.

What’s in your way?

I still have a lot of work to do for the project, so I will spend most of my time working on that.

What will you do next week?

I will finish the project as soon as I can and then get started on my work in my other classes.

What did you think of Paper #6: Open-Closed Principle?

I found reading the paper useful. The basic argument of the paper is that code should be closed to change but open to extension.

What was your experience of arguments, returns, and consts? (this question will vary, week to week)

Learning about these concepts were extremely helpful in understanding C++. It took a little time to wrap my head around these concepts, but once I did, I felt much more comfortable with arguments, returns, and consts.

What made you happy this week?

I took a day trip to Dallas this weekend with some friends. We went to Carrolton and the Galleria and ate a variety of food and visited many different stores. Aside from the long drive, the trip was enjoyable.

What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?

My tip of the week would be to go back and watch lecture recordings if you didn’t fully understand what was being talked about in class. Sometimes in the past, I would be in class, but not understand the material, and in the next class, I wouldn’t feel even more behind because of it. Going back after class and make sure I understand all the concepts has been tremendously beneficial.
