Killing beings that might well be human beings, especially more than 58 million of them which are disproportionately African-American, sure is embarrassingly regressive. Worse (if possible), it undermines the foundation of Western society by destroying the weakest among us, undercutting the very idea of human rights.

Oppressing women that might otherwise escape cycles of poverty, especially more than 58 million of them which are disproportionately African-American, sure is embarrassingly regressive. Worse (if possible), it undermines the foundation of Western society by destroying the life chances of women, the weakest among us, undercutting the very idea of human rights.

It struck me that the argument goes both ways rather well.
