We write to expiate and extirpate our shame and guilt and anger and grief and loneliness and impotence. We write at the injustice of the world. We write in order to create order out of chaos, reordering it over and over, in terror that the chaos may indeed be meaningless. We write to uncover our deepest secrets to ourselves, to understand. We write in an outpouring of love…The urge is to create. The outcome belongs to God.
