There’s always more than meets the eye…

The Truth About The Light In Your Life…

I get absolutely THRILLED about the word ILLUMINATE because it reminds me of how the care I provide allows me to help people create massive changes in their lives.

Each individual has to be willing to make the change for themselves, but the opportunity is there for everyone.

Much like this picture. I love it not because it’s a good photo.

It’s blurry, it was simply taken on my iPhone.

But what you may not notice on first glance…

Look at the water under the fireworks….

Much like these fireworks, brain based…

Unsteady steps expose where you may need a helping hand…

It’s much easier to get through life’s obstacles when you don’t try to do it all by yourself.

As Heather and I were stumbling on the rocks we both found places where one of us would be more stable than the other, able to lend a helping hand when one of us would need a little extra balance.

This is the value of healthy relationships.

Our bodies and minds THRIVE when we have healthy relationships.

I used to live in a place in my brain where I didn’t think I could share my struggles with anyone else.

I felt like…

Adelson’s Checker-shadow illusion

Things are not always as they appear.

In this picture, for example, you’ll notice that the squares labeled A and B do not look the same color.

However, they 100% ARE. You can see for yourself here (

Your brain is designed to make up information based on what it has previously experienced.

If you’ve previously experienced stress and trauma, then your brain will interpret more information than needed as a stressful threat.

This prevents you from being productive, being focused, being profitable, and being present.

This month I’ve had about 10 “bad” things happen to me.

I got into…

When I was in middle school, I thought my life was miserable….

I sat the bench on the football team..

For one, I didn’t try very hard and I certainly had no desire to hit the weight room or go to summer workouts…

For two, I had super severe hip pain that prevented me from walking normally down the hallway…

Prevented me from going to practice with all of my friends…

Prevented me from running when we would play homerun derby in my backyard…

All things every kid should be able to do and ENJOY.

After many doctors visits, numerous…

The Frustrations of Maybe….

This weekend Heather and I have a booth set up at the Doheny Surf & Art fest.

It’s been a ton of fun meeting other vendors, connecting with people in the community and TELLING THE TRUTH about what it means to truly be healthy and successful.

One of the things we have been implementing at our booth is asking people to take a brain balance assessment me and one of my favorite colleagues made up.

And it always amazes me how many people will literally say,

“Oh I know my brain is messed up” or

“I know I’m out of…

Volunteering to feed needy elderly in November 2018

You Only See The Finished Product…

I volunteered back in November to help feed the elderly.

For me, this picture has two significant lessons…

ONE: It’s way easier to give money than it is to give time.

What you don’t see is the sweat covered shirt at the end of me mashing these 70 pounds of potatoes.

What you don’t see is that we brought my mother-in-law to volunteer with us because we had already COMMITTED…and we kept our word on our promise to be there.

What you don’t see is us rushing out to get to having our own…

This is not a staged picture.

It’s actually me smirking with frustration because Heather Kimbley was kicking my butt in Scrabble.

The reality is, that we need to “lose” in order to succeed at the highest levels possible.

Challenges, setbacks, losses, defeats…they all have their place and lessons to teach us.

This particular loss in Scrabble is special to me though because seemingly goofy and unimportant…it gave me a huge revelation about myself

Often times I’ll take my natural skills, and confidence for granted and it gets the better of me.

Heather kicked my butt because in my head I…

What are you COMMITTED to?

This is a picture of me cutting tiles for the bathroom floor in my office that I put in myself

…and it reminds more of COMMITMENT…

In the last year and a half, since moving to California…I’ve transformed from never touching a surf board, to surfing a foam top board affectionately known as “The Log”…

To surfing a board shorter and faster than I ever thought possible on waves that I used to be deathly afraid of.

Over the last 5 years, I’ve grown from being a high school English teacher to a Doctor, an…

This is me and one of my best friends, Dr. David Lutz after a fun surf session on a day with very small waves.

I love this picture because it reminds of what it takes to have a solid relationship.

Commitment to keeping each other in check.

Dedication to pushing each other to grow into our true, authentic selves.

Willingness to be vulnerable and open to sharing our deepest fears and insecurities.

Not having this relationship would not allow me to be where I am today.

I’ve shared it all with this man.

My fears about owning my own business.

I learned a powerful lesson in the ocean this morning…

I swear there was a shark in the water about 3 feet from my board this morning while I was surfing.

I was at a spot I’ve rarely surfed, it was 530am, I was on a board I’ve used less than 10 times and I was the only person on the beach OR in the water for that matter.

Needless to say, I the conditions weren’t perfect for me…I was LEARNING
