Sure the tensions were there. But if U.S hadn’t meddled there wouldn’t have been a civil war. The overwhelming majority of Syrian don’t like Assad, but they sure as hell prefer him over the alternative.

Afghanistan is, like you correctly point out, another example of where bad things happens when U.S meddles. Civil war for them, and terrorist attacks in our homelands for us. While the military industrial complex reap their profits.
