Why I’m Joining InVision
I’m super excited to share that I joined the InVision team as a product designer to help designers, product managers and engineers collaborate better together and help them create awesome products.
I love the ability to work from anywhere and choose my own clients and projects, but during the last 8 months, I had this feeling of lacking focus, even if I only worked on a maximum of 2–3 projects at a time.
I had this desire to focus on one product and make it as awesome as possible. I’ve been thinking about this during the last 8 months, so definitely no impulse decisions here.
During the last 2 years I was approached by different companies to join them as a designer and while all of them are great companies, unfortunately, none of them aligned perfectly with my lifestyle being a fully remote designer.
When the InVision team reached out to me I was super excited since the whole company is 100% remote!
If I should answer in one sentence why I joined the InVision team, it would be something like this: I joined InVision because I strongly believe what they’re working on is extremely important for the upcoming years, I respect and look up to all my teammates and their expertise and I totally agree with their company culture and how they work.
Why working remotely is a big deal?
Over the years working as an independent designer remotely I experimented certain ways how to find my most productive workflows and schedules.
This includes waking up around 9 o’clock, working out before noon and finish my first creative session before the 14:00 lunch. Plus I usually like to schedule my meetings at the end of the day after my creative session around 17:00–18:00. So yeah, this doesn’t really fit into the regular 9–5 job schedule. Since I’m based in Europe and I try to align with the US time zones this schedule is simply perfect for me.
In addition to this, I also like to travel around in Europe during the spring and summer time to work from different places, since all my work only requires a computer and good internet connection anyway.
I also created my own office area at home which suits and serves all my needs to get things done in the most productive way. So going back to a regular commute job was never an option for me.
Shaping the designer community around the world
I’m super excited to give back to the designers’ community since I learned everything online from other designers. So I know the importance of all the available design tools, articles and tutorials and the impact of big design companies like InVision on designers.
The ability to work on InVision, one of the most important and most popular design platform used by 80% of Fortune 100 companies like Amazon, Airbnb, Slack, Starbucks, Spotify, IBM, eBay, and Netflix is just mind-blowing! 🤯
Working with design legends
Although working as a solo product designer is fun, since you get to do all the negotiations, marketing, sales, client communication, design and sometimes the front-end development as well, it can be super lonely at times.
I always judge companies based on the team members and employees they have, since these are the people you’ll work with for the upcoming years.
The key to the success of a company can always be found in the quality of the team and it’s also true in the case of InVision. The team has allowed InVision to grow super fast and also continue growing with at least the same pace and enthusiasm.
The opportunity to work with excellent and outstanding designers from all around the world, share best practices, workflows and working together is something that I’ve been missing a lot. I can’t wait to work even more side by side with some of the most talented designers and people that I admire. 🙌
This is only the beginning. I’ve joined the team as a product designer at the end of August, so it’s only a bit more than a month and I’m super excited for what’s coming next.
What I can promise is that I keep designing and creating to the best of my knowledge and sharing my experiences with all of you and do my best work to help improving how other designers and teams work together around the world.
