Hi Joe,

Thank you so much for taking the time to read my first article. It is a painful process to relive the horror that my family and I endured, but I suppose, part of changing a narrative entails sharing your story.

You are right when you say that that these stories of mistreatment, misconduct, and missing transparency are not unique. They are ubiquitous in NYC, as they are ubiquitous in many cities.

Similar to Dustin Finney, I’m unsure if Lauren’s helmet would have saved her. It was ripped off her head, once the car hit, dragged, and rolled over her. In fact, I believe I may have met Kristi Finney at a Vision Zero conference in NYC — her tireless efforts are admirable and she’s a model for many who advocate for safer streets.

Similar to a lot of cities, NYC is incredibly car-centric. It’s hard to imagine any victim’s family being listened to when obscured by political leaders who favor votes over public safety. I’m working hard to make people listen as a member of Families for Safe Streets NYC and I do hope you have an outlet to voice your support of these issues as well.

Sincerely,

Danielle
