A lot of people “support feminism” but that doesn’t make them feminists, and that doesn’t mean that they feel obligated to respect women who aren’t “Babes for Bernie”.
I have not been attacked by a Bernie supporter, but I do appreciate the sentiment!
I don’t feel “unsafe” as the author of this article does. Frankly, I’m not too keen on the rise of “safe spaces” as I find that they all too often succeed in silencing divergent views.
I am often, however, angry and frustrated when what I have to say is dismissed as “mindless” and when I, as a person, am dismissed as a “$hill for $hillary” voting with my uterus instead of my brain.
I agree with your last point and have been trying to do just that. There is some real ugliness out there, and to keep it from getting worse we have to get to know each other. We have to talk to each other. And we shouldn’t have to agree in order to be respectful.
