Open letter to those who self harm

“It takes the pain away”

Temporarily.

“Self harm takes away the emotional pain and helps me focus my pain elsewhere”

What if it leads to more?

“Cutting makes me feel alive”

What if you cut too deep?

What if you accidentally killed yourself by “trying to focus your pain elsewhere”?

Did you ever think about how it would affect the other people around you?

“They could care less”

You may think they don’t care, but they do. They may just not know how to show you they care.

What about your siblings? How would it make them feel.

One day Jesse wanted to make the pain go away so she decided to cut just like any time she was upset. The only thing different today, she cut too deep. She started bleeding profusely. She panicked and went into shock. She could not move. She was getting cold. Finally, her heart stopped. Jesse’s 8 year old sister wanted to play barbies with her big sissy. She opened Jesse’s bedroom door and found her on the floor covered in blood. She screamed “wake up sissy!” Jesse’s mom ran to her room to see her child, lifeless laying on her bedroom floor. She sobbed asking God “Why?!”
As Jesse’s sister grew up she could not get the image of her lifeless sister out of her head from the day of her suicide. She finally couldn’t cope anymore and took her own life.

You are very worthful. You deserve happiness. Never give up.

This too shall pass…
