Finding an equation (a polynomial and its parameters) that fits the past by no means represents a prediction… I bet the 2016 data point will not follow this equation (and once more he will be able to find a new set of parameters that fits the new data set — including 2016 — using the same inputs)… It may not even follow the 6% increase vs 2015 (given by the regression, the first graph) even though it is more likely to do that than to follow the equation.
