What is AI ? Yay or Nay

Nowadays the modern technology is growing very fast.Lets take for example some of quickly updating gadgets.

Smartphones 📱, laptops 💻, TVs 📺

Yes, most of us can’t imagine their life without smart devices and the internet.

Now there’s a new thing called Artificial Intelligence.

Artificial intelligence is some sort of thing (code + math) that helps machine to do human tasks.

“Can machines think ? “ — Alan Turing

According to Wikipedia Alan Turing was an English mathematician, computer scientist, logician, cryptanalyst, philosopher and theoretical biologist. He has made a test which is known as Turing Test. The idea was that if the questioner could not tell the difference between human and machine, the computer would be considered to be thinking. Turing suggested that by the year 2000 the average interrogator would have less than a 70% chance of making the right decision after five minutes of questioning.

Yet now passing Turing Test still seems a tough thing.

There are 3 main types of Artificial Intelligence; Artificial Narrow Intelligence (ANI), Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), and Artificial Super Intelligence (ASI). When we talk about ANI, we mean the type which is focused on one single narrow task. It possesses a narrow range of abilities and is the only type of AI in existence today. AGI is the type of AI that is about as capable as a human; this is still an emerging field. And finally, ASI is the type which is more capable than a human; this type of AI will be capable of performing extraordinarily well at things like arts, decision making, and relationships.

So i can bring an example of an AI code written in python whose job is recognizing handwritten numbers.

Yeah, it looks awkward. Now look at this!

Neural Network

Those circles are neurons and together they make a neural network. This network consists of 5 layers of neurons (input, output and between them 3 hidden layers).

Imagine an image of a handwritten number (like 7) in pixels. We input those pixels to input neurons and then every pixel goes through other layers of neurons until output. Then we can change settings and try it again.

So we can train them for better results and lower error-rate.

Now lets take some real life examples from good and bad sides of experience.

I’ve attended WCIT 2019 congress recently in Yerevan, Armenia and there were quite big experts from IT and non IT fields. The main theme of most talks was an AI technology.

Garik Israelian showing some disclosed secrets of science

Garik Israelian, Armenian-Spanish astrophysicist and scientist says that AI helps them not only to analyze a huge amount of data (up to exabytes) coming from on ground and cosmic telescopes but also to create spectrums of planets very precisely.

It is great, isn’t it ?

But with parallel with that we can teach AI to do many bad things, like to hack the systems of companies, government or try to figure out where are the weak places of the system.Today you can try to hack pretty much everything.

Most of the data which is surfing through internet is encrypted, but with nicely trained AI i think we can break that encryption quickly.

Richard Clarke, former National Coordinator for Security, Infrastructure Protection and Counter-terrorism in US says that government and media need to work closely together to identify fake news. Also social media needs to spend the time and money and have the technology to be able to identify fake accounts, fake news, deep fake videos and block them before they get their job done!

Now there are a bunch of companies which use AI to help people to get a better life.

PicsArt, IntelinAir, Yandex, Google, Apple, iCarbonX, H20…

People can say that AI is an amazing technology and we can boost our abilities to do something amazing or that it’s a strange thing and can make disasters in future.Yeah, both can happen, but we need to combine our effort and try to make the world a better place 🌎.
