Haha. I can see some of you scratching your heads.

What was an acronym again?

Hi, my dear readers!

Don’t worry, we’re not doing a grammar lesson here, but let’s make sure we’re talking about the same thing.

Stay with me; this is going to be a long but very personal post.

So, this is an acronym.

The definition of an acronym.

A word formed from the initial letters of a series of words, pronounced as a word.

There are a few that spring to mind, right?

Examples are:

  • NASA — National Aeronautics and Space Administrations.
  • CIA — Central Intelligence Agency.
  • DIY — Do It Yourself.
  • ASAP — As Soon As Possible.
  • LOL — Laugh Out Loud

By the way: The term “ADIDAS” is often mistakenly thought to be an acronym for phrases like “All Day I Dream About Sports.

But it’s derived from the name of its founder, Adolf “Adi” Dassler. The first part “Adi” comes from Adolf’s nickname, and “Das” comes from his last name, Dassler.
