Sounds like you’re working in a pretty large company. If you want to “merge” UX & UI you’d better be careful; UX carries so much more than just wireframs and thinking out of the user needs and what nots. There’s a whole research aspect that defines what direction the UI design takes, and so on.
Instead of complaining on what UX “lacks”, why not show it? If you can actaully take it one step further and show how UI design should impact UX, then I think you’d make more of a point.
