I don’t expect static typing to solve the bug issue. Static types can also enables incredible refactoring capabilities, which is incredibly important for projects large and small. Features we have seen with Java and JetBrains IntelliJ IDEA are making there way to WebStorm with TypeScript. Visual Studio Code is rumored to be adding similar refactoring for TypeScript. And, separately, Angular 2 uses type in constructor signatures for its injection engine.
