100 Days of Code: Day 6

I needed some inspiration for portfolio layout, so I ended up watching a video on FreeCodeCamp’s Medium blog about the best way to create a portfolio, what should be in one, and how it should look. The one thing that stuck out to me the most was the fact that the portfolio can be as simple as you like, it’s the quality, not the quantity, of the work you show in it.

So I decided to go the simple layout route and came up with this layout:

Short, sweet, and to the point.

I like this layout a lot better than the one I created last night. I have a picture that I actually want to show people on my portfolio so you can tell I’m an actual human. I have a section showing my work, with kittens in place at the moment, but will have a small screenshot of my work with a link to the page and my code (Github Gist).

And the bottom has all the ways to contact me. Basically my social media area, but it looks really good.

The navigation is also very simple, with three links for each section and a hover state for each area with a dark green background and white text.

I’m really happy with this layout. I think I’m going to end up going with this version for my FreeCodeCamp portfolio. I still need to go through and set up a lot of the areas to fulfill the user stories, but that shouldn’t take too long. And I need to get all of my links together for my contact area, as well as a version of my resume with most of my personal info removed. Don’t want to get spammed any more than I will with my email.

But I’m off to bed. I burned the midnight oil a little too long tonight and I’m looking forward to getting some sleep. But I made a lot of progress and I’m happy with my results. ^_^

Finding myself through process of elimination and lots of error codes, eventually getting all the wrong pieces right.
