Free Code Camp: Day 1 and 2

I’ve made a bit of progress on my first and second days working on my Free Code Camp areas. I got all set up with the Getting Started area, finished HTML and CSS, Bootstrap, and the Gear Up For Success sections tonight. I also met some really awesome people in the Chat room (the main Free Code Camp chat) and assisted someone with an Angular problem. Couldn’t find the main problem, but myself and another camper were able to find the solution.
I even found out I’m sort of a success story. When I mentioned I had come back and started over from the beginning while in the main chat room, one of the campers asked why I started and over and what brought me back. After giving them a quick recap of what I’ve been up to since October, he said he was impressed. I was able to find employment and I wasn’t even halfway through the JavaScript section of FCC.
Not going to lie, that gave me some warm fuzzies when I read that. I was able to find employment using the small portfolio I had created, showing the skills I already knew and some of the new ones I picked up from FCC, and was able to land a job.
I’m still stuck on some of the basics of JavaScript, but I can definitely say Free Code Camp did help me get a job. Well, that and the help of some of my awesome coding friends.
So for those of you starting out, coming back like me, or are currently working through your challenge map, don’t get discouraged. Coding is hard, frustrating, and very difficult to master. But make sure you breathe, walk away and come back to the problem if you have to, and always know there’s help out there- be it the chat room, Google, or StackOverflow.
You’re not alone in this endeavor. And if I can make it, so can you.
Code on!
