Emma Roberts and Garrett Hedlund have reportedly split after almost three year of dating.
The couple welcomed their first child together, Rhodes Robert Hedlund, in December 2020, who they happily shared on Instagram weeks after his arrival.
‘It’s sad, and they’re doing everything they can to co-parent. It’s been tough,” a source told PEOPLE of their post-breakup dynamic.
Last month, Emma and Garrett celebrated their son’s first birthday with a rodeo-themed party.
‘I loved every second. I love you Rhodes,’ gushed Roberts, who shared several adorable photos from the shindig with her Instagram followers.

Emma and Garrett started dating in March 2019 and, more than a year later, revealed that they were expecting a child.
Emma gave birth in December 2020 but waited to reveal her baby’s birth and name until January 2021.
A source told PEOPLE at the time that the Tron actor had “totally stepped up” after the birth of Rhodes.
“Having a newborn in the pandemic has been much more difficult than any of them expected, but they are really doing everything they can to work things out,” they alleged.
“Garrett fully stepped it up after Emma was still recovering from giving birth. He made sure that her house was equipped with the things that Emma liked and needed to make her comfortable. She is beginning to return to a more more “normal” routine.
The news of his split came after it was revealed that Garrett is being sued for a car accident that took place the night of his 2020 DUI arrest.
The actor is being accused of crashing into another car, in which a woman and three children were traveling, and passed out drunk behind the wheel of his Jeep and ran a red light.
The family claims that Hedlund, whose blood alcohol level on the night in question was twice the legal limit of .08, attempted to feel the scene without calling an ambulance.
In court documents obtained by PEOPLE, the actor’s conduct is deemed ‘despicable’.
“Hedlund’s conduct was despicable because he knew and was informed of the dangers presented to plaintiffs and the public when he operated a vehicle while intoxicated,” the complaint said.
The complaint also described the strong odor of alcohol emanating from the The Tron: Legacy actor.
“There was a very strong odor of hard liquor emanating from the breath, body and cabin of Hedlund’s Jeep even though the windows were open/broken,” he said.
The complaint went on to say that the star attempted to dispose of the ‘open bottles of alcoholic beverages’ present in the vehicle before police arrived.
The injured family also claims that he tried to flee the scene and they had to take his car keys from him to make sure he didn’t leave.
The actor refused a DUI test at the scene of the accident. When he was tested at the police station two hours later, his blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit.
The family is suing Garrett for damages.
Hedlund was arrested for two DUI offenses in February 2020. Following the arrest, the actor was arraigned later the month and was able to post $100k bail.
The Tron: Legacy actor served 36 months of probation, according to Los Angeles County Superior Court documents obtained by Page Six.
Hedlund was later assigned three days of community service for one of the positions. The second charge was dismissed.
In addition, he was required to enroll in an alcohol and other drug counseling and education program for first-time offenders in nine months.
His team says Hedlund did not resist seeking intervention for his substance abuse, according to Page Six. “When the incident occurred, Garrett immediately sought treatment which was successful. Today, he is in a solid and excellent place,’ the representatives told the outlet.
