Twitter Asks for Feedback on New Layout for Replies
Twitter product manager, Sarah Haider, recently tweeted asking users for their opinions on how to improve Twitter’s reply threads and interactions to increase engagement on the site between users.

According to Social Media Today, couple of key differences users might see are: threaded replies to tweets, color coded responses (purple for original tweeter, gray for others, and blue for yourself), and a green dot that appears on your profile picture to let users know (at real-time) if/when people are active.
Some feedback Haider received were: making it an option to collapse/hide replies to avoid a cluttered time line; cap the number of replies on a thread before started a new one; and adding a indicator that shows when a person is typing.
Many of tweeters were congratulating Twitter for asking its users their opinions on the mock layouts, since that was one of the biggest complaints about the site.
The only downside for businesses (especially large ones) would be the amount of replies they could potentially get; brands must create an effective social media strategy to be able to engage with their following in a clear and timely manner.
If Twitter decides to implement these new features, especially the active indicator, that could be beneficial to businesses because their following would be inclined to engage with them. A user tweeted to Haider that he “finds (himself) less inclined to reply to tweets that are more than 6 hours old”; to that Haider questioned if it would make him feel better to see that the user was green and the reply was “that might be the missing bridge!”
Hopefully Twitter takes this feedback into consideration and makes the site enjoyable for its users and favorable for companies.
