Which Roofers Should You Choose?
Roofers, there are many of them but few great ones. In London and the surrounding areas such as Essex, Dartford etc, there are a few things to look out for when choosing a roofing company. Take a look to see if they are part of the The Guide of Master Craftsmen, which is a good guide to whether they are good at their job, and are accredited by the industry standard.
Another area to look at when choosing your roofer would be to see what their reputation and reviews look like. Do they have a good online presence? Do they respond well to any reviews, both positive and negative? Why did they get any negative reviews? Does it look like they respond and action any negative reviews rather than keep on doing the same thing afterwards — for example, are there reviews that are months or years apart that complain about the same thing?
Roofing companies that have a 15 year guarantee are always a good shout as that shows that they take care in their work, they believe in what they do, and for your investment in your home it’s 15 years of safety net. Many companies don’t do this but one extra aspect to look for is for guarantees on even the smallest of repairs. This means that if your leaky roof starts again in the same place, then the company will come out and repair that area again for free.
Not only being accredited but roofers that are approved by their local authority, or say for example, in London the trading standards approval for that borough is something that you should look at. This shows that the council believes that the roofing company is decent and does what they say they do.
Another box ticked would be a smart looking website. Roofers make a lot of money from the danger aspect of doing the work, the skills required and time spent for their team of directly employed people. This means that they can and should afford to pay for a good looking website. Not only does it showcase their services and their past results, but it shows that they have taken care in their company and build their brand and reputation accordingly.
Roofers that have public liability insurance, a wealth of experience, allow you to pay on completion, are available for 24 hour emergencies and are approved are a great choice. It’s not just the price you should look at, you should look at the industry as a whole when choosing the right roofing company.
Here’s a list of repairs and services that a good roofer would partake:
- New tiled roof installations
- Fascias and soffits
- Lead work and lead welding
- Storm damage and insurance repairs
- Chimney repairs
- Flat roof installations
Last but certainly not least, look for a roofing company that sticks to their estimated deadline. You don’t want the upheaval or a roof replacement or a roof repair to take months. Get roofers that set a date, a time and when they expect to finish. Of course the weather will play its own part in the repair, but roofers that really strive to achieve their deadlines will no doubt be the ones to choose.
