I am going to disagree, H. Not all kids behave poorly, and not all parents receive the brunt of it. Perhaps you will tell me I was too restrictive with my daughters because I did not allow them to defy me, but my children were not lacking. Even when we went into the toy store to buy another child a birthday gift and my girls wanted one too and I refused, they did not cry and scream and throw a tantrum. I explained very simply to them that it was not their day. That we were there for someone else. That another day would be theirs. They were quite content with that.
