This is a coincidence. I’m Jewish — a non-practicing Jew. My parents belonged to a synagogue, and my brother was Bar Mitzvah’d, but that was it. We never even attended the High Holidays, but I still identify as Jewish. It’s funny because I have two daughters — one whom we sent to private Catholic school and one we didn’t. The one who went used to tell everyone she was Christian. Now she just doesn’t say. My younger daughter went to Israel four years ago on Birthright. It surprised me that she was interested, but now I realize it was just a free trip to her.

I haven’t done the searching you have. Religion just doesn’t make any sense to me, and since I have never worshipped anyone or anything and always felt I was alone, I don’t miss not believing. I mean even as a child I never had an idol.

They say that the older we get, the more afraid of death we become and do a last ditch effort to find religion. It hasn’t happened yet. I think you and your wife may like the very first story I wrote for Medium:
