Very hot autumn outfit in style of 1955 with eco-friendly handmade half hat
In Spain, the weather quickly interchanges between major and minor notes. Some days there are very warm and even hot days, which are interspersed with cool ones.
Now, outside is a cool weather. However, I have accumulated a lot of photos of summer looks that I would like to share.
Therefore, I think that I will publish them for a long time, but in order not to confuse my readers, I will be calling them outfits for “very hot autumn”, “hot autumn” and “very warm autumn”.
Some time ago in my journey into the vintage realm, my American step-grandfather, Californian professor David Shapiro (who sadly passed away in early 2020), sent me two contemporary 1950s style dresses as a gift.
It really changed my wardrobe. I wore these dresses almost constantly, pairing them with a variety of accessories.
Those two dresses were the same brand as my current one. The only difference is that those ones were expensive, but this one I bought for only one euro on sale in a vintage store.
My previous life credo allowed me to acquire new things, but now I adhere to a different one.
I decided not to buy things that would stimulate their mass production, with a few exceptions. These include hats and sometimes costume jewelry.
That’s why I buy shoes, bags and clothes only in secondhand, flea, charity and vintage stores. Because I stick to reasonable consumption.
The half hat that I wear with this outfit was made by my friend photographer Alexandrina Wasiliewa-Szylowska from vintage materials with my ideological participation following the contemporary ethical, compassionate and sustainable tendency.
Inside, an old wire found in the attic was used as a frame and an old tattered cotton blouse as the lining. The hat itself is crocheted from old cotton yarn and decorated with the same roses and a bow from an old veil.
The used pattern was real vintage, from 1950s.
At the end of 2020, when I wanted to return to vintage feminine fashion, there were practically no hats on sale. And the ones I had were lost to me. Therefore, I had to fantasize, following the old French wisdom, which is sometimes attributed to Mark Twain for some reason, sometimes to Gabrielle Chanel, and sometimes to many others:
“…Il y a trois choses qu’une femme est capable de realiser avec rien: un chapeau, une salade et une scène de ménage…”
“…There are three things a woman can make without anything: a hat, a salad and a domestic scene…”
I am wearing:
- (on some photos) Real vintage white with blue polka-dot print bolero with elbow length sleeves, made in UK, about 1970s-1980s
- Blue stretch cotton knee length swing dress with short sleeves, sweetheart neckline, with white bow on front of fitted bodice by “Heart & Roses London”, about 2010s
- (not seen) Cream pure silk slip dress by “Hoss Intropia”, 2010s-2020s
- (not seen) Black pure silk petticoat, about 2010s
- (not seen) White cotton petticoat, about 1990s-2010s
- Handcrochet white pure cotton half hat with 3 cream crochet roses and real vintage black silk veil bow décor by Alexandrina Wasiliewa-Szylowska, idea by Dannais dde Daneann, end of 2020
- Sterling silver braided bracelet by “Miguel Ángel” (“Miguel Ángel Diaz Navarrete — Joyería”), made in Spain, about 2020s
- Real vintage gold toned metal with white crystals flower shaped clip-on earrings, about 1950s-1960s
- White leather belt by “St. Michael”, made in UK, late 1980s-1990s
- White python leather handbag by “Carla Sade”, made in Spain, about 1990s
- White leather Venetian loafers with mid-high heels, made in Spain, 2010s-2020s
- (on some photos) Real vintage dark blue with white polka-dot umbrella, about 1950s
I think I ended up with a 1955 look. I especially like the combination of a dress and hat with an umbrella and a bolero.
