Very hot autumn outfit in style of 1940–1941s in red with real vintage coolie like hat
And again, I’m demonstrating an outfit in the style of the 1940s, specifically the 1940s-1941s.
Such a sundress with spaghetti straps paired with a bolero was worn at the beginning of that decade.
And also often combined with wide-brimmed straw hats.
The hat I am wearing in these photos has been redecorated with the wide silk and velvet polka-dot straps by my photographer friend Alexandrina Wasiliewa-Szylowska and me.
Once upon a time they were part of a vintage clothing which I bought in poor condition in a Polish secondhand store for the classic 1 Polish złoty.
There, and for the same price, I bought a swing sundress with spaghetti straps by “L. K. Bennett“. “L. K. Bennett” is a renowned contemporary English luxury brand based in London.
Since 1990, Linda Kristin Bennett, the founder of this brand, has been making shoes, and since 1998, she has started making clothes.
Clothes and shoes from “L. K. Bennett” are worn by Catherine, Princess of Wales.
Therefore, I was pleased to find a completely new dress for only 1 Polish złoty.
In general, this is my second dress from this brand, bought in secondhand. First one was the LBD (Little Black Dress).
However, without the bolero, this dress seemed unfinished to me. I don’t really like revealing clothes at all. Therefore, I always try to combine it with some capes.
My vintage bolero has square shoulders, so it helps complete the 1940s look.
I am wearing:
- Real vintage red cotton bolero with red and white striped edge by “Små Troll”, made in Norway, about 1940s
- Red silk bellow knee length swing sundress with spaghetti straps by “L. K. Bennett”, about late 1990s — early 2010s (not earlier then 1998)
- Real vintage red straw large coollie like hat with wide silk and velvet polka-dot straps redecorated by Alexandrina Wasiliewa-Szylowska and Dannais dde Daneann in 2021–2022, about 1950s-1960s
- White leather belt by “St. Michael”, made in UK, late 1980s-1990s
- Natural toned cellulose straw cat head shaped handbag, about 2010s-2020s
- White leather Venetian loafers with mid-high heels, made in Spain, 2010s-2020s
Despite the modern dress, I ended up with a 1940–1941 style look suitable for a hot summer or a very hot autumn.
It’s strange, but for some reason in this outfit I feel like a Hollywood star of the 1940s — Deanna Durbin (née Edna Mae Durbin).
