Just G.S.D
I have a lot of time for people who just follow their ‘thing.’ It might not make them millions of dollars, it might not make them anything, but they just get on with it, they Get Shit Done (GSD.)
Excuses are easy. You can pretty much make one up for anything. I used to do it when I’d submit crappy projects at school, or I’d have a bad exam result… so yeh, I’ve come up with a few in my time. But as you figure out what you want and where you want to go, and your passion for projects increases you find that you don’t need excuses. You just GSD.
GSD was a term introduced to me some time ago. Colloquial, it was thrown around when you essentially did just that. One person who has taken that saying and applied it is a guy by the name of Kip Jordan. You probably haven’t heard of him, but if you’re in the Melbourne cycling scene you’ve most likely heard of his publication Melbourne Whip (MW.) MW is a project based on the love of Melbourne culture, photography and bicycles. That’s it. Kip makes no money from it and the people he features don’t get paid for it either. Neither do the brilliant photographers Caz and Andy. All parties do it for the love of it and it’s their ‘thing,’ they just GSD. They put in a lot of hard work, with a lot of supporters who donate a lot of their time.

So next time you think of an excuse, or a reason not to do something, just think if the finished project you’ll be able to enjoy… it’s worth it.
Disclaimer — I helped run an event for the launch of Melbourne Whip Issue #2 last weekend. I donated my time for the event. This post is merely a reflection on my personal views of the great culture and results people with a common goal can achieve — Especially Kip and his merry band of comrades.
