I Should Really Sluff Some Stuff

Tiny House Nation? Yeah, right.

Over the years, and there’s been a few, I have collected stuff. Not in the sense of a coin collector or a stamp collector or a butterfly collector, they have focus. I have a tendency to acquire things that I find useful or interesting. Lots of things.

Clothes? “Hey they were on sale!”

Hats? Ah, the memories. Style is a must and, besides, you do have to keep your brain insulated.

Books? Alexandria and the New York Public Library inspired me.

Computer parts? Well, over 30 years in the commercial consulting and implementation business, things change, a lot, and quickly. I once worked on a hard disk drive the size of a small refrigerator that held !!5 megabytes!! of data, we thought we’d never fill it up (besides, we had tape drives). Who knew?

But, I digress, the point is this; with three floors, high ceilings, and 7,500 square feet of total floor space, acquiring stuff is easy. You hardly notice.

My lovely and talented wife and I have various and sundry interests. Community theatre production, cooking and baking (had a restaurant once), reading, tech, music, art, woodworking, photography, and there were three children in there somewhere too. Eclectic kind of covers it. Horder? Not so much. Don’t get me started on the necessary(?) equipment and materials to support all of these interests.

There is hope though.

I quit. Mostly.

  • I don’t buy clothes until I wear out the ones I have, and I’ve donated the ones I can’t or don’t wear.
  • I no longer do theatre production and I’ve rid myself of most of the props, flats, lighting, costumes and other associated ephemera.
  • Obsolete computers, manuals, and parts have gone to recycle.
  • I use my Kindle reader for as many books as I can.
  • I no longer buy DVDs, CDs, or vinyl (Oh, didn’t I mention the movie and music collection? Oops.)

I am in the tunnel and I can almost see the light.

I hope I don’t get turned around.
