My Year In Reviews: Food And Drink Blogging In London

Something I am asked on a regular basis is where I recommend for people to go and eat and drink in London, this comes from two things;
1. I am lucky enough to go out and eat and drink regularly
2. My girlfriend and I are food reviewers and all of the reviews can be found on her UK lifestyle blog.

So here are some of my favourite places I have eaten or drunk at in 2015.

Their Full English need’s at least two people to finish

Breakfast and Brunch: London has a huge breakfast scene, generally the best places to eat breakfast are based centrally or connected to large hotels and worth spending a little extra. Granger & Co, Hawksmoor Guildhall and Dean Street Townhouse are all top recommendations for both breakfast and brunch.
We reviewed The Folly and their breakfast are large, very good, and nicely chilled at the weekend.

For Brunch definitely check out the Big Easy review. Typically known for BBQ food their brunch are well worth the visit.
I can safely say the bottomless brunch was great and I challenge you to finish this beast (I definitely did not).

The Big Chill definitely fills your stomach

Afternoon Tea is probably the most saturated market in London, as a huge fan of sandwiches, teas and cakes I consider myself an expert in reviewing afternoon teas.
In the summer Paula and I went to review The Hilton Skybar, it’s not one of the most obvious but it is one of the best we have had over the last few years and definitely one of the best priced afternoon tea’s available.
Here are our top 5 afternoon teas in London.

Champagne afternoon tea is optional but highly recommended

Eating dinner in London can be very hit and miss, so I have broken these down into a few popular categories:

Pizza: Pizza can really divide people, there are a few places which we reviewed this year that stood out, the main stand out is based in Mayfair lanes is Mayfair Pizza Co, a great sign is when Paula and I revisit a restaurant, we have revisited a number of times since the review, it’s great for varied starters, luxury pizzas and Nutella pizza’s!

Nutella Pizza for dessert is a must have

If you like quick and no fuss pizza Pizza Pilgrims and Franco Manca are worth a visit.

Sunday Roasts, who doesn’t love Sunday Roasts? Paula’s favourite restaurant is Bob Bob Ricard and we reviewed in the autumn as BBR just launched their new Sunday Roast menu. I can safely say if you would like somewhere a little more special and a treat alongside with great service BBR is definitely the restaurant for you. If you are looking to impress at a business lunch or on a date this is the place for you.

BBR desserts are also something you have to experience!

BBQ food; it’s not easy to have great BBQ food in London, us Brits are used to burnt BBQ food and slightly wet BBQ’s at your friends in July, One Sixty are trying to address this and offer authentic American BBQ food. These ribs were awesome. If you like fair priced cocktails its worth worth the visit.

Dessert: Something we all love is dessert, sweet and savoury is everywhere in London, often we do not think of desserts when we think of the Chelsea area. Pont Street Hotel had a great menu and offered really good food although the stand out dish was their donuts, they offer salted caramel donuts but something we were told they also do is Nutella donuts and although their salted caramel donuts were great the Nutella donuts are worth to travel down to Chelsea alone.

Nutella Donuts whats not to love?

Cocktails: Something you know about London is there are so many bars often disappointing. Here are two different types of cocktail bars I highly recommend you visits.

The Polo Bar at the Westbury in Mayfair is probably now my favourite bar, it’s one of those bars you instantly relax in, yes it’s based in Mayfair and you won’t get two for one but you know the cocktails are expertly mixed and will make any classic you might like. I would recommend ordering The Twinkle 68 and if you love a prohibition style cocktail order the El Prèsidente. It’s would be a great date place for anyone single and wants to impress.

If you love strong cocktails definitely order the El Prèsidente

For a slightly different experience the Cocktail Trading Company in Smithfields (near Farringdon) is another must visit.
Every cocktail is served in a different “glass” and tastes great, I really enjoyed the Tequila Sunrise (yes that tacky 80’s cocktail has been remastered).
Cocktail Trading Company is well priced with great cocktails and unchallenging menu. Definitely book and read the full review.
