Rooney overhead vs Man City was 5 years ago today

Social media has gone crazy today with it being five years to the day of Wayne Rooney’s wonder goal in the 2011 Manchester derby.

On this day Rooney scored ‘that’ goal at Old Trafford which stunned the world of football. The overhead that flew past Joe Hart into the top right corner has been named as one of, if not his best moment, in a Manchester derby.

Sir Alex Ferguson said: “I’ve never seen a goal like that in my life” as his side went on to earn all three points in the match and eventually clinch the title for the fourth time in five seasons.
