In 1984 Christopher Guest starred in and co-wrote This Is Spinal Tap, a hilarious “mockumentary” that ridiculed British heavy metal bands, and remains one of the funniest films ever made. 12 years later Guest returned to the style with an even more stripped-down approach with Waiting For Guffman, this time poking fun at amateur theatre and wannabe-showbiz stars.

The story follows Corky St. Clair (Guest), a failed Broadway musical director whose task it is to create a show to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the quirky town of Blaine. He recruits several budding actors to star in his project, including enthusiastic dentist Dr. Pearl (Eugene Levy), and overly-confident couple Ron and Sheila Albertson (Fred Willard and Catherine O’Hara) who dream of making it in Hollywood and practice dance routines at home.
