Vine in the Newsroom

As far as Vine goes for telling stories, I don’t think it’s a great tool. Six seconds is not nearly enough time to tell a story that provides information and substance to a viewer. Vine may be a good tool to utilize behind the scenes though. The editorial staff has the luxury of being at the desk, in front of the wall, or in a stand-up in their pieces. While a lot of photographers (myself included) don’t really want that kind of attention, if Vine were used to provide a brief behind the scenes look every once in a while, people could get to know the entire news team on a more personal level. In this day in age, more and more people are looking to the internet exclusively for their news, and in that way a lot of news is getting depersonalized. When the people get taken out of the reporting, it becomes easy to see the organizations we work for as machines instead of people. Having a Vine account for the newsroom, shared between the staff, would pull the curtain back and allow the public to see what goes on behind closed doors, and that were all just people.
